System Restore

If you wish to perform a complete database system restore of your entire Ultimate Locator database system, it can be done via the Restore tool.

On the navigation menu, click the link that says "Restore" to bring up the restore screen.

Important Note: All tables in your current database will be dropped and wiped clean. Use with caution!

Choose your backup file:

The following action requires a system generated Backup File that you have previously created. See the System Backup section for more information on this topic.  Do not attempt this step without first generating your backup file.

Backup files are automatically created in your /locator/dbackup/restore directory on your server each time you perform a Backup.  Each backup file that is found on your sever will then be listed on your Restore page so that you can choose which backup file you wish to use.  Select your desired backup file from the list and click the 'Continue' button to start the Restore process.

Choose your Tables:

The next screen will list all tables that are included inside your selected Backup file.  All tables are selected by default, but you can click any or all table that you wish to include for this restore process.  You also have the option to check-off the Restore configuration file values", but you probably do not need this option checked in most cases.

Click the 'Begin Restore' button to start the Restore Process

Restore Complete:

At this point, your database tables will be dropped (deleted) and the SQL statements that are contained in your backup file will be executed, which will create new tables.  The system will also populate your tables with that data that is included in your backup file.

Loss of Data Warning:

Performing a System Restore is a very sensitive step.  If for any reason you have performed a restore with a Bad/Corrupted backup file, you may loose all your data.  Your database tables will be dropped and your backup file will have "bad/corrputed" data put back in the tables.  If this happens, and you do not have a good backup file saved to your computer, you may have to reinstall your locator.

This is why we recommend that you download a copy of the backup file to your computer each time you perform a Backup.  Then you can open your backup file in your favorite text editor and view the file to ensure good file structure.
